Sermon: God's Heart for the Nations
Questions:
1. Opening question: What types of people in the world do you have a difficult time loving?
2. The sermon focused on the life of Joseph and also traced the theme of God’s heart for the nations of the world. What do you remember about each of the main points of the sermon? (seen above). What in the sermon challenged you? Do you have any questions to bring up?
3. Read and discuss Luke 10:30-37. Then answer the following:
a) What did Jewish people think of Samaritans? (see John 4:9 and John 8:48)
b) Why do you think Jesus chose a Samaritan to be the hero of the story?
c) How did Jesus change the question in Luke 10:29? (see Luke 10:36). Why is this important?
d) Are there certain types of people that you have trouble loving?
e) In what practical ways can you be a better neighbor to those who are difficult to love?
f) How does all of this relate to the story of Jonah?
4. Read Acts 26:1-29. Paul is on trial in Caesarea and gets the chance to testify before King Agrippa II, the son of Herod Agrippa I (who killed the apostle James in Acts 12:1-2) and great-grandson of Herod the Great (who killed the baby boys in Bethlehem after Jesus was born).
a) What stands out to you about Paul’s speech?
b) How would you outline Paul’s speech? What are the main sections?
c) What does Paul say in this speech to establish his own credibility? (see vv. 4-5, 6, 8, 9, 22, 25, 26). Why was this important?
d) What was Paul’s purpose in sharing this speech? (see vv. 27-29)
e) What can we learn from these insights about sharing our own testimonies today?
5. Do you feel prepared to share the gospel and your testimony with others? What plans can you make to be better prepared?
6. Spend some time praying for each other. Ask that God would give you His heart of compassion for the unloving and unlovable. Ask for faith to obey Him in whatever He calls you to.
