Just Another Sunday Fun Day With Jesus

Just Another Sunday Fun Day With Jesus

Jesus had to explain to His disciples that He was the reason for the Torah itself. That they were literally living with and spending time with God. The Pharisees couldn't comprehend this and His disciples wrestled with it. Until, he died and rose again. Then it all made sense.

Just Another Sunday Fun Day With Jesus! – Mark 2:23-3:6

Legalistic Gospel – emphasizes the rule of law, with harsh punishments to deter crime or sin, Legalism relies on written rules, physical force, and a uniform administrative system that is demanded.

Relational Gospel – the way in which two or more concepts, objects, or people are connected, or the state of being connected in a relationship with God. A relationship not based on rules…but based on facts that if lived by will bring freedom and peace. Serving the God of the universe because you want to…not because you have to.

A Discussion about the Sabbath
23 One Sabbath day as Jesus was walking through some grainfields, his disciples began breaking off heads of grain to eat.24 But the Pharisees said to Jesus, “Look, why are they breaking the law by harvesting grain on the Sabbath?”
25 Jesus said to them, “Haven’t you ever read in the Scriptures what David did when he and his companions were hungry?26 He went into the house of God (during the days when Abiathar was high priest) and broke the law by eating the sacred loaves of bread that only the priests are allowed to eat. He also gave some to his companions.”
27 Then Jesus said to them, “The Sabbath was made to meet the needs of people, and not people to meet the requirements of the Sabbath.28 So the Son of Man is Lord, even over the Sabbath!”

Jesus Heals on the Sabbath
3 Jesus went into the synagogue again and noticed a man with a deformed hand.2 Since it was the Sabbath, Jesus’ enemies watched him closely. If he healed the man’s hand, they planned to accuse him of working on the Sabbath.
3 Jesus said to the man with the deformed hand, “Come and stand in front of everyone.”4 Then he turned to his critics and asked, “Does the law permit good deeds on the Sabbath, or is it a day for doing evil? Is this a day to save life or to destroy it?” But they wouldn’t answer him.
5 He looked around at them angrily and was deeply saddened by their hard hearts. Then he said to the man, “Hold out your hand.” So the man held out his hand, and it was restored!6 At once the Pharisees went away and met with the supporters of Herod to plot how to kill Jesus. Mark 2:23 – 3:6 NLT

Not Just An Average Sunday:

- Yes, Sunday is just another day…BUT…it is a day that we can take a deep breath…relax from the weekly battle to set aside and do life together with other believers to worship and celebrate and share what God has done and is doing in our daily lives. (Ex. 20:8-11)

- It gets us ready for another week…

“Remember to observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.9 You have six days each week for your ordinary work,10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath day of rest dedicated to the Lord your God. On that day no one in your household may do any work. This includes you, your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, your livestock, and any foreigners living among you.11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and everything in them; but on the seventh day he rested. That is why the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and set it apart as holy. Exodus 20:8-11 NLT

God invites us to trust Him for seven days to provide for us and walk us through life…and He’s simply asking for one day…to rest our minds, our bodies, our hearts and to worship and give Him glory while connecting with others. (Exodus 16:20-30).

- After Jesus’ resurrection, the early Church worshiped on Sunday and rested on Saturday.

- Making Sunday or the Sabbath, “Holy”…doesn’t mean that the rest of your week is unholy.

- Every Sunday can be…and is…a reset…a day to rest and get it all back together…

- God doesn’t want your Sunday worship to just be an average day…He set it aside to reconnect with Him…if you get disconnected…to be challenged, encouraged and fulfilled with being connected with Him and connected with others who are connected with Him.

- He is all about the personal relationship with Him and with our relationships with others.

The Gift Of A Sunday With Jesus!

- The Pharisees prioritized man-made rules over God-given opportunities.

- Jesus doesn’t bow to our ideals – we bow to His truth.

- The Sabbath is a gift of get-to in a world of have-to.

- Every command that God has given or will give… provides us with an awesome opportunity to promote God’s glory and our good….by the freedom we experience when we live His commands in our daily lives.

- Jesus was teaching His disciples that He… was what it was all about…Not a set of rules…He is what our daily lives should be about…NOT rules…BUT a relationship with Him.

- Every Sunday with Jesus is just another day…It’s just another Sunday!

- Live your daily life like it’s a Sunday with Jesus and when Sunday comes around…rest in the fact that He has helped you make it through and walked you through it.
