The Big Idea:
God has never wanted a transactional relationship with you.
The Law, the Prophets, and Jesus all agree:
God wants your whole heart.
A Little Context about the Law:

1. The Law has little to offer if you do not desire to live for God.

2. The Law has authority for Three Reasons:
1. I am the LORD (Leviticus 19 = 16 times!)
2. Who rescued you from slavery - Exodus 20
3. I have set you apart for Myself - Leviticus 20
1. The Old Testament and Jesus (v17-18)
The Accusation made of Jesus: "You abolish the Law because you do not obey it properly."
Two Truths from Jesus:
β€’ I have not come to abolish the Law, but to fill it fully.
β€’ Not one iota of the Law will disappear until everything is accomplished.
The Old Testament points to Jesus and Jesus fulfills the Old Testament
2. The Heart of the Matter
Many people love Religion more than they love God. Or they feel that God loves religion more than He loves them.
The Highest Levels of Spiritual Bankruptcy are also the Highest Levels of Righteousness.
3. The Old Testament and You
Your response to the Old Testament determines your status in the Kingdom of God.
The rest of sermon on the Mount teaches how to see what the commands are trying to accomplish in you. How the Law was incarnate in Jesus and how to find the perfect law that gives freedom.
Response:
Trade your transactional relationship with God for an empowered one.
