Sloth: We Must Do Difficult Things
First Sunday in Lent
There is no status quo in our faith journey - We are either growing in grace or falling from faith.
Sloth (acedia) is not laziness - It's "the refusal to respond to our opportunities for growth, service, or sacrifice."
Sloth manifests in unexpected ways - Refusing to forgive, avoiding difficult conversations, not seeking help for recurring sin, and even refusing to rest properly.
Sloth leads to apathy which is the silent killer of faith.
Overcoming Sloth - Choose Temperance: Staying in place (refusing distraction), Practice Courage: seeking help (it's a team sport, not an individual pursuit).
"We must do difficult things" - The world says "we can do hard things" but the church says "we must." The good news: "We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us" (Philippians 4:13).
