The necessity of Christ’s death was precipitated by human sin.

· SIN is more then just a violation or infraction against God’s holy law.

· SIN is that which separates us from God.

· This separation from God is described by New Testament writers as death

1 Corinthians 15:21-22
Death came into the world because of what one man (Adam) did, and it is because of what this other man (Christ) has done that now there is the resurrection from the dead. Everyone dies because all of us are related to Adam, being members of his sinful race and wherever there is sin, death results. But all who are related to Christ will rise again. (TLB)

Sin entered the human race through one man, Adam; because of that one man all people come into the world contaminated by sin.

In order to reverse the result of sin, God sent his own son in human flesh, that he might conquer the painful consequences of sin and obtain the victory over death.

Sin entered the human race through one man and because of his sin we are all contaminated by sin and condemned to die.

Jesus bore our guilt and took on our punishment on the cross so we could be made right with God.

JESUS CONQUERED SIN ON THE CROSS

Dying, however, was not enough. Jesus also had to conquer death

· So on the third day, Jesus was resurrected to new life

· All who believe on Jesus become partakers of this new life
THE POWER OF SIN HAS BEEN RENDERED INEFFECTIVE, BECAUSE OF THE DEATH OF CHRIST

THE STING OF DEATH HAS BEEN ELIMINATED BECAUSE OF THE RESURRECTION OF CHRIST

WE HAVE BEEN GIVEN THE PROMISE OF ETERNAL LIFE

Colossians 2:13-15
You were dead in sins, and your sinful desires were not yet cut away. Then he gave you a share in the very life of Christ, for he forgave all your sins, and blotted out the charges proved against you, the list of his commandments which you had not obeyed. He took this list of sins and destroyed it by nailing it Christ’s cross. In this way God took away Satan’s power to accuse you of sin, and God openly displayed to the whole world Christ’s triumph at the cross where your sins were all taken away (TLB)

God not only canceled the debt (of sin); he also destroyed the document on which it was recorded; thus declaring us forgiven - free from the debt of sin.

· He did this by blotting out the bond with its damning indictment against us and nailing it to the cross when Christ died.

Because of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, God has not only forgiven us all our sins, but he also utterly removed the signed acknowledgment of our indebtedness.

· He removed it by blotting it out and nailing it to the cross and marking it “paid in full”

GOD HAS TAKEN AWAY SATAN’S POWER TO ACCUSE US

· Christ has removed the power or authority that Satan exercised over the lives of men and women

· Satan no longer holds the certificate of indebtedness over our heads, for Christ has removed it from his grip, marked it paid in full and gave notice to the world by nailing it to the cross.

Philippians 3:7-8a, 10
But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, . . . . I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection . . . (NIV)

IT WAS THE LOVE OF GOD SENT JESUS TO THE CROSS

BUT IT WAS THE POWER OF GOD RAISED JESUS FROM THE DEAD
2 Corinthians 5:17
When someone becomes a Christian, he becomes a brand new person inside. He is not the same anymore. A new life has begun! (The Living Bible)
