The church is the people of God, filled with the Spirit of God, engaging in the mission of God.
Boldness (parresia) is having the courage and confidence to stand for Jesus in the face of opposition.
“Christians should be the boldest people in the world – not cocky and sure of ourselves, but sure of Him.” A.W. Tozer
1. Bold people deeply know Jesus
2. Bold people are unashamedly obedient to Jesus
2 Timothy 1:7
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but one of power, love, and sound judgment.
3. Bold people are prayerfully dependent on Jesus

Dig Deeper:
1. So far in the book of Acts, we have learned that the church is the people of God, filled with the Spirit of God, engaging in the mission of God. How are we living this out at The Bridge Church?
2. What are Peter and John doing that is annoying religious leaders? Why are they annoyed? What do they do to Peter and John?
3. Read Acts 4:5-6. Who is the “their” in this passage? Why is this significant?
4. What is boldness? What is it not? Why should we, as Christians, be bold?
5. Read Acts 4:7. Is this the first time they have been questioned? Why do they keep asking them the same questions?
6. Read Acts 4:8-10. What is the other time scripture mentions that Peter was filled with the Holy Spirit? What happened in both instances?
7. Why does Peter emphasize Jesus’s entire name and hometown?
8. What does Peter boldly declare in Acts 4:10? Why is this a bold move?
9. Read Acts 4:11. What Psalm is Peter referring to? What is a cornerstone? How is Jesus the cornerstone of our church?
10. Read Acts 4:12 and John 14:6. How are these statements bold not only then but now in our current culture?
11. Read Acts 4:13. Why would their audience consider them uneducated and untrained? Were they?
12. What were they amazed at? Why were Peter and John bold?
13. How are we changed when we spend time with Jesus? Describe how your time with Jesus changes you.
14. Read Acts 4:14. They keep asking the same questions, but what is their response when the disciples answer? Why do they have nothing to say?
15. Read Acts 4:15-18. Read through this passage and describe the men’s thought process. What are they trying to accomplish? Is this possible?
16. How do we see the same thought process lived out today?
17. Read Acts 4:19-20. Unpack their response.
18. Were Peter and John always this bold? Discuss what you know about each of these disciples’ journey with Jesus.
19. Read Acts 4:21. What did they do before releasing them. What do you think this looked like?
20. Read 2 Timothy 1:7. What does it look like to be unashamedly obedient to Jesus? Is it possible to be bold and fearful at the same time? Explain.
21. Read Acts 4:23. Where did they go? Why do you think they went there?
22. Read Acts 4:29-30. What are they praying for? Would you pray the same prayers in their situation? Why or why not?
23. Read Acts 4:31. How did God answer their prayer? Why do you think he answered it in this way?
24. Describe a time when your boldness was strengthened through prayer.
25. What does boldness look like in your life currently? What do you want it to look like?

Live It Out:

How can you live boldly for Christ? Bold people:

1. Deeply know Jesus. How much time do you spend with Jesus? The most important meeting of your day is your meeting with God through His Word and in prayer. What time of day is best for you to do this? Set a reminder and spend time with God daily. Make note of how your time spent with Him changes you and makes you bolder.
2. Are unashamedly obedient to Jesus. In what area of your life is God calling you to obey Him? The Holy Spirit works through obedient people who desire to honor God above all else. Observe during your week opportunities for you to be bold by being candidly faithful to Jesus. This could be around friends, your co-workers, neighbors. What are they doing? What can you do in that same situation to be bold?
3. Are prayerfully dependent of Jesus. Are you praying boldly; for God to use you despite the broken world we live in? If so, how does your boldness strengthen through prayer? If not, what is holding you back? Spend time with God in prayer, focusing on how you can walk boldly knowing that Jesus is your Lord and Savior.
