TITLE: What's Love got to do with it?
SERIES: The Father's Heart: A Journey Through 1 John
TEXT: 1 John 3:11-18
Three Action Steps or Responses:
1. Examine your heart for love or hatred.
2. Demonstrate love through sacrificial actions.
3. Commit to living out the love of Christ daily.
Study Questions:
1. What does John mean when he says love is the defining mark of an authentic Christian (1 John 3:11-15)? Application: Examine your heart and relationships within the church. Are there any unresolved conflicts, bitterness, or resentment? This week, take a step toward reconciliation by reaching out to someone with love and grace.
2. Why does John contrast love with Cain's hatred and murder of his brother (1 John 3:12-13)? Application: Identify areas where jealousy, pride, or resentment may hinder your love for others. Ask God to help you replace those feelings with humility and a heart that rejoices in others' blessings.
3. How does Jesus' sacrificial love define what true love looks like (1 John 3:16-18)? Application: Look for practical ways to show sacrificial love this week - whether through service, generosity, or encouragement. Find someone in need and intentionally demonstrate Christ's love to them.
