The Formative Friction of Friendship
Proverbs 27:1-17

Friendship is a school of formation.

Friendships deeply form our values, beliefs, and behavior.

“Environment dictates behavior.”

Loving friends when they do not fulfill our conditions teaches us to love unconditionally.

Friendship forms us to love and be loved well.

Formative friendship requires skills.

Foolish friends are imprudent (v 12)

Foolish friends are "rescuers" (v 13)

Foolish friends are “over-blessers” (v 14)

Foolish friends are “over-critical” (v 15)

Wise friendship is marked by humility, honesty, and helpfulness.

A wise friend takes responsibility for their own choices, not for the choices of others (vv 1-4).

A wise friend gives and receives encouragement and correction (vv 5-6).

A wise friend gives helpful guidance (v9).

A wise friend is a helpful presence (v10).

Jesus’ friendship frees us to love others and be loved well by others.

Salvation Prayer
Dear Lord Jesus, thank You for drawing me to Yourself from my darkness, my sin, and my shame. I repent of my sins, and I ask You to forgive me. I welcome You into my heart, and I surrender my future into Your hands. Guide me by Your Holy Spirit, and help me to be a reflector of Your light to those around me. Thank You for including me in Your family. Amen
