Living in Peace
1 Thessalonians 5:12-15

1 Thessalonians 5:12-15
Pastor Jerry Koller
· Paul is drawing attention to those who are over the church, those who are over them in the Lord.
· The word “over” carries with it the idea of “presiding over,” those individuals who “lead, manage, rule and care for” the saints.
· The word “over” carries with it the idea of “presiding over,” those individuals who “lead, manage, rule and care for” the saints.
Let’s look at another word in regard to these individuals who served in an oversight capacity. Paul refers to them as those who work hard.
· The word Paul uses includes labor or toil, but it takes the hard work to the point of exhaustion—not just physically but also mentally.
· The word Paul uses includes labor or toil, but it takes the hard work to the point of exhaustion—not just physically but also mentally.
Notice where this hard work is carried out. Paul says it is among you.
· It has to do with “in, on, at, by, or with.”
· It denotes “position, location, or association.”
· It has to do with “in, on, at, by, or with.”
· It denotes “position, location, or association.”
They admonished the saints.
· Admonishing includes warning with the intention of correcting behavior or beliefs.
· It carries with it the idea of a gentle but firm guidance in order to bring about positive change.
· The overall goal of their admonition is to nurture spiritual growth and maturity.
· All these aspects can easily be summed up as pastoral care.

Again, what does Paul ask of the brethren? He asks them to respect these individuals.
· Another word for respect is appreciate.
· Another word for respect is appreciate.
Continuing this thought and request, he says, in verse 13
Paul wanted them to esteem their leaders highly and lovingly.
He also tells them why: because of their work.
He also tells them why: because of their work.
Whether or not there were issues in the church with people not respecting or appreciating leadership, the last half of verse 13 fits no matter what the occasion or issues may be.

Hearing Assistance Devices Available
We have hearing assistance devices available during the morning worship service which allow the user to control the volume based on their individual needs. They are available from the Sound Booth at the rear of the sanctuary and are cleaned and sanitized after each use. For questions, see Rocky Starland.
Have You Considered?
Did you know that if your bank offers online services, you can set your tithe up as a regular ‘bill payment’ through your bank? This is a convenient option to help with continuity in giving and the ability for you to tithe even when you are on vacation or miss church. It eliminates having to wonder if you turned in your offering while you were gone! If you have questions or would like more information about how to utilize this convenient option, check with your banking institution or contact the church office.
Pop Cans = Scholarships
Don’t forget that your beverage can & bottle donations are used to fund teen scholarships for youth retreats, summer camps, special activities, etc. Please bring your recyclable items to the church anytime!
