Dig Deeper:
1. As we continue with our Unfinished series, what are some ways our mission remains unfinished as a church? How have you already been able to apply this to your life?
2. What does it mean when you hear of something being done “in and through” the church? How can it be both?
3. God’s love for us is endless. Discuss the many ways in which you see His love poured out on us all.
4. Read Acts 3:1 Is this an everyday occurrence for them? How do you think this practice affected them?
5. Read Acts 3:2. When was he placed at the temple gate? Who do you think he encountered there each day?
6. Read Acts 4:22. How old was the man at this time? Describe what his life might have been like; what challenges he might face due to his condition.
7. Read Acts 3:3. How was Peter and John’s rhythm that day different than this man’s rhythm?
8. Read Acts 3:4. Unpack how powerful this moment is. Before they physically gave him anything, what did Peter and John do for this man?
9. Read Psalm 34:18. A core value at The Bridge Church is that we love all people. Describe what this means. Who is “all people”? Why is this important to us? Why is it important to others?
10. How does loving people coincide with teaching the truth of God’s Word? What is the difference between acceptance and approval?
11. Read Acts 3:5. What was the man expecting? Why would he be expecting it?
12. Read Acts 3:6-7. Discuss the order of events and the timeline here. Why is each significant?
13. Read Acts 3:8-10. Again, discuss the order of events and timeline here. Why is each significant?
14. Describe a time when you have witnessed a similar chain of events – someone worshiping God by showing compassion and love to someone else, who then is able to impact others by doing the same.
15. Read Isaiah 35:5-6. What does “then” mean in this passage? How long ago was Isaiah written before Acts?
16. How are we just like this man who could not improve his life on his own power? Describe how your relationship with Christ has radically changed your life.
17. Read Acts 3:11. Look up and learn more about Solomon’s Colonnade. What else was it called? Why do you think these actions took place here at this specific spot?
18. What is a miracle? How are they platforms for the gospel? Describe a miracle you’ve witnessed in your own life. How was it used to authenticate the message of the gospel?
19. Read Acts 3:12. What does Peter immediately do?
20. Read Acts 3:13-20. What does Peter remind them of? What does he reiterate to them?
21. Was the man saved just so he could walk? If not, why? How was he healed in multiple ways? How did his healing impact others?
22. Read Acts 4:1-4. What should our response be when we witness God at work in our lives, too? Why might we hold back in doing so?
Live It Out:
We are called to share and show the gospel of Jesus Christ. The church is the hands and feet of Christ. Are you willing to be divinely interrupted? Who is God calling you to show His merciful compassion to this week? At work, at school, in your neighborhood, in the community…be ready to share God’s incredible gospel as you meet their needs.
1. Seeing people with compassion. Be aware of the people you encounter this week. Are you seeing them with compassion? Why or why not? Identify how seeing them with compassion can not only soften your heart but change their heart as well. Pray for those who you encounter and need to show compassion.
2. Meeting physical and spiritual needs. Are there physical needs that you can meet for those around you this week? Are you looking for and considering the physical and spiritual needs of those you see on a regular basis? If so, what are they? How can you meet them using your gifts and resources? It may be a simple invitation to ride with you and join you on a Sunday morning!
3. Helping people find and follow Jesus. Who have your shared Jesus with recently? Regardless of the outcome, how did it help you show compassion to others? Remember what God has and is doing in your life and share that with those around you. Allow people to be witness to, and utterly astonished, with how much God loves you, and them. Look for opportunities to share and show the love of Jesus wherever you go.
