Following Jesus requires helping someone else follow Jesus.
Follow – Love and obey
Jesus – Apprentice for life
Together – Community of faith
WORSHIP: We honor God together every Sunday because He’s worthy of our lives. Romans 12:1-2

BELONG: We are created for community and doing life together. Romans 12:4-5

SERVE: We share our gifts and talents to serve others as the hands and feet of Jesus. Matthew 20:26-28

GIVE: We give generously because God is so generous with us. 2 Corinthians 9:7-8

GROW: We mature in our faith when we help others follow Jesus. Matthew 28:18-20
PRIORITIZE, SIMPLIFY, and FOCUS!
Matthew 28:18-20 NIV Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Dietrich Bonhoeffer –“Christianity without discipleship is always Christianity without Christ.”

The emphasis is NOT on GO; it’s on DISCIPLE!

Jesus expects us to make disciples as a natural by-product of following HIM.
Dallas Willard – “The greatest issue facing the world today… is whether those who are identified as Christians will become disciples—students, apprentices, practitioners of Jesus Christ.”

NOVICE <-----------------disciple---------------------> EXPERT

“Disciple” means becoming an apprentice of Jesus and his way of life.

Francis Chan – “We reduce discipleship to a Bible study when it was meant to be a lifestyle.”

We must realize that a disciple is a disciple maker.
2 Timothy 2:2 NIV And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.
Four generations of discipleship.

“Things you have heard me say…” 1st generation
“In the presence of many witnesses…” 2nd generation
“Entrust to reliable people…” 3rd generation
“Who will also be qualified to teach others.” 4th generation
2 Timothy 2:3-7 NIV Join with me in suffering, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4 No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in civilian affairs, but rather tries to please his commanding officer. 5 Similarly, anyone who competes as an athlete does not receive the victor's crown except by competing according to the rules. 6 The hardworking farmer should be the first to receive a share of the crops. 7 Reflect on what I am saying, for the Lord will give you insight into all this.
The Soldier
The Athlete
The Farmer

Daily diligence over a long period that yields the victory, the prize, and the harvest!
A.W. Tozer –“The goal of every Christian should be to become a disciple of Christ, and the goal of every disciple should be to make more disciples.”

Following Jesus requires helping someone else follow Jesus
Eugene Peterson – “ Discipleship is a long obedience in the same direction.”
