Jesus Isn't Afraid Of Your Mess

Jesus Isn't Afraid Of Your Mess

So many people today have no faith that Jesus can handle their mess. They doubt, wrestle with discouragement, and sometimes just give up on God. The problem is...YOU! He never gives up on you...YOU give up on YOU! Jesus isn't afraid to face and deal with anything you have that you would call "your mess". He can handle it. You have to "let" Him handle it. That means to confess it and deal with it.

Jesus Isn’t Afraid of Your Mess – Mark 1:40-45

Jesus Heals a Man with Leprosy
40 A man with leprosy came and knelt in front of Jesus, begging to be healed. “If you are willing, you can heal me and make me clean,” he said.
41 Moved with compassion, Jesus reached out and touched him. “I am willing,” he said. “Be healed!”42 Instantly the leprosy disappeared, and the man was healed.43 Then Jesus sent him on his way with a stern warning:44 “Don’t tell anyone about this. Instead, go to the priest and let him examine you. Take along the offering required in the law of Moses for those who have been healed of leprosy. This will be a public testimony that you have been cleansed.”45 But the man went and spread the word, proclaiming to everyone what had happened. As a result, large crowds soon surrounded Jesus, and he couldn’t publicly enter a town anywhere. He had to stay out in the secluded places, but people from everywhere kept coming to him. Mark 1:40-45 NLT

How He Approaches Our Mess (Mark 1:40)

A man with leprosy came and knelt in front of Jesus, begging to be healed. “If you are willing, you can heal me and make me clean,” he said. Mark 1:40 NLT

Leprosy is a vivid illustration of what sin does to us:

Serious Skin Diseases
The Lord said to Moses and Aaron, 2 “If anyone has a swelling or a rash or discolored skin that might develop into a serious skin disease, that person must be brought to Aaron the priest or to one of his sons. 3 The priest will examine the affected area of the skin. If the hair in the affected area has turned white and the problem appears to be more than skin-deep, it is a serious skin disease, and the priest who examines it must pronounce the person ceremonially unclean. Leviticus 13:1-13 NLT

it goes deeper than the surface (Lev. 13:3), it spreads relentlessly (Lev. 13:5-8),

On the seventh day the priest will make another examination. If he finds the affected area has not changed and the problem has not spread on the skin, the priest will quarantine the person for seven more days.6 On the seventh day the priest will make another examination. If he finds the affected area has faded and has not spread, the priest will pronounce the person ceremonially clean. It was only a rash. The person’s clothing must be washed, and the person will be ceremonially clean.7 But if the rash continues to spread after the person has been examined by the priest and has been pronounced clean, the infected person must return to be examined again.8 If the priest finds that the rash has spread, he must pronounce the person ceremonially unclean, for it is indeed a skin disease. Leviticus 13:5-8 NLT

it makes one unclean (Lev. 13:44-45),

the man is indeed infected with a skin disease and is unclean. The priest must pronounce him ceremonially unclean because of the sore on his head.45 “Those who suffer from a serious skin disease must tear their clothing and leave their hair uncombed.[ They must cover their mouth and call out, ‘Unclean! Unclean!’ Leviticus 13:44-45 NLT

it isolated people from their community (Lev. 13:46),

As long as the serious disease lasts, they will be ceremonially unclean. They must live in isolation in their place outside the camp. Leviticus 13:46 NLT

and it deserves the fire (Lev. 13:52).

As long as the serious disease lasts, they will be ceremonially unclean. They must live in isolation in their place outside the camp. Leviticus 13:52 NLT

The leper was desperate to reach Jesus…and that caused him to forget or ignore the customary Torah procedures.

Never question if Jesus can do it…but will He do it.

How He Cleans Up Our Mess (Mark 1:41-44)

Moved with compassion, Jesus reached out and touched him. This will be a public testimony that you have been cleansed.”
Mark 1:41-44 NLT

Jesus’ is so compassionate towards us that He embraces our mess before cleaning up our mess.

Jesus never wanted followers who just wanted temporary fixes…or temporary miracles. He wanted to see lasting “life change”.

Jesus didn’t condemn the leper’s for being disobedient before He cleansed him, He did urge him to be obedient after he was cleansed and healed.

Jesus can and will handle your sin, addiction and mess...even if you think he can’t. Your fear that He can’t is what’s holding you back…His grace and belief in you should motivate you to let Him have it….and all of it.

How He Makes Our Mess Into Something Less (Mark 1:45)

But the man went and spread the word, proclaiming to everyone what had happened. As a result, large crowds soon surrounded Jesus, and he couldn’t publicly enter a town anywhere. He had to stay out in the secluded places, but people from everywhere kept coming to him. Mark 1:45 NLT

People who’ve been changed by Jesus can’t keep it to themselves.

We shouldn’t be fearful to get into other people’s mess, WHY? because Jesus was willing to get into our mess.

In restoring, healing and helping the leper, Jesus actually took the place of the leper.

…As a result, large crowds soon surrounded Jesus, and he couldn’t publicly enter a town anywhere. He had to stay out in the secluded places, but people from everywhere kept coming to him. Mark 1:45 NLT

Our freedom from sin, our mess and any addiction is dependent upon Jesus’ condemnation….

Life in the Spirit
8 So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. 2 And because you belong to him, the powerof the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death. Romans 8:1-2 NLT
