TEAM DYNAMICS:

1. Every team has a goal: Win the game = by making goals, runs, touchdowns, and baskets.

2. Every player has a position on the team. Playing that position effectively will enhance the team’s chances of winning the game.

3. Every team has a playbook.

4. Every player must work together in unison, doing their part to execute the playbook.



POINT #1: YOU HAVE BEEN CALLED BY GOD (v. 1)


Believers have been called to follow Jesus.

Therefore, as followers of Christ, we should live like Jesus Christ.

The verses that follow outline ways in which those who believe are to live like Christ, followed by an emphasis on doing so in unity as “one body.”

The body of Christ, the church, is a Jesus’ team – one in which we are called to be a part. We all need one another to accomplish God’s mission or carry out God’s playbook to “make disciples of all nations”.

We are also given different gifts or manifestations of the Holy Spirit, which are given to edify and build up the church.

The Apostle Paul continues in the text (vv. 8-10) to enumerate an ad hoc list of the manifestations of the Holy Spirit present and at work within the church.

All of these diverse gifts and manifestations of the Holy Spirit are given to different people in the church for the common good, or to build the church up and enable it to function as a healthy strong team.


POINT #3: WE ALL HAVE A POSITION ON JESUS’ TEAM (vv. 11-13)

Five leadership gifts are mentioned: Apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers. These leadership gifts are people, who are called to equip the believers in the church.


God is at work in each person’s life to position them on His Team to fulfill his mission and accomplish His work on this earth.

You may not know your exact position or have perfected the gifts God has given you, but know this He is at work.

If you incur an injury where a bone is fractured or a ligament is torn – that injury impacts the rest of your body and keeps you out of the game.


When it comes to the body of Christ, it may feel as though our weaknesses and hurts causes us to become weakened and unable to function properly, but that is not the plan.

We don’t do church on our own. It is through the empowering presence of the Holy Spirit that we move forward in the call and work together in unity.
