The Text in Context

"...The text does not specify how Paul discovered that the Corinthians were doubting the resurrection, but the apostle does not sugar-coat his response. The word that Paul uses to describe what is being resurrected is nekros, a corpse. He does not say that the person’s spirit is resurrected, or that the soul will go on and be with Jesus. He does not talk about loved ones looking down from heaven or floating around. The focus is on..." To read more, click link.

Growth Group / Personal Reflection Questions

1. Reference 1 Corinthians 15:14. Why is the resurrection so central to the Christian faith? What would be the implications for Christianity if the resurrection had not occurred?

2. In 1 Corinthians 15:20, Paul describes Christ as the "first fruits of those who have fallen asleep." What does this metaphor mean in the context of resurrection? How does Christ's resurrection serve as a promise or guarantee for the future resurrection of believers?

3. 1 Corinthians 15:21-22 contrasts Adam and Christ. How do Adam and Christ represent two different humanities? What does it mean to be "in Adam" versus "in Christ"?

4. What does 1 Corinthians 15:24-28 tell us about the ultimate purpose of Christ's reign? How should this future reality influence the way we live our lives today?

5. In Corinthians 15:26, Paul writes, "The last enemy to be destroyed is death." Do you think of death as an enemy? Why or why not? What other "enemies" do you think Paul is talking about in v. 25?
