Christianity Is More We Than Me

Christianity Is More We Than Me

How can we bear God’s image in community? This weekend, author and speaker Lisa Harper begins our Made For Each Other series by reminding us that Jesus did not intend for us to be alone—He created us to love one another in togetherness to display His affections for us!

“The only answer, the only hermeneutic of the gospel, is a congregation of men and women who believe it and live by it.” —Lesslie Newbigin
“Everyone who returns from a long and difficult trip is looking for someone waiting for him at the station or the airport. Everyone wants to tell his story and share his moments of pain and exhilaration with someone who stayed home, waiting for him to come back.”—Henri Nouwen
“God can show Himself as He really is only to real men. And that means not simply to men who are individually good, but to men who are united together in a body, loving one another, helping one another, showing Him to one another. For that is what God meant humanity to be like; like players in one band, or organs in one body. Consequently, the one really adequate instrument for learning about God is the whole Christian community, waiting for Him together.”
—C.S. Lewis (from Mere Christianity)

The Bible isn’t just inscripturated data about our Creator Redeemer nor is it solely a set of divine parameters by which we can establish a system of ethical behavior, instead God’s Word stresses and strengthens belonging to a community of other believers. The body of Christ isn’t a metaphor, it’s a divine mandate!
Loneliness was never part of God’s original plan for His image bearers … it came with the Fall.
