Sermon Title: We Believe for the Impossible
This speaks to PRAYER - the power of PRAYER.
We are called to pray all throughout scripture.
We read this call to prayer in the Old Testament:
2 Chronicles 7:14, “Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray...”
Challenge to pray in the NT: James 5:14, “Are any of you sick? You should call for the elders of the church to come and pray over you...”
The disciples didn’t ask Jesus, teach us to preach? They asked this:
Luke 11:1, “...Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”
Luke 1:37, “For nothing will be impossible with God.”
Ephesians 3:20, “Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.”
Acts 3:1-8
1 Peter and John went to the Temple one afternoon to take part in the three o’clock prayer service.
They were living their life, normal, but yielded to God. Walking to the temple to do what? To pray.
5 The lame man looked at them eagerly, expecting some money.
6 But Peter said, “I don’t have any silver or gold for you. But I’ll give you what I have.
Peter knew that material things were not going to solve his problem.
A few coins here today, would still have him back out on the street begging tomorrow.
But he perceived the real need and Peter went there!
7 In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, get up and walk! - He believed for the impossible.
Why don’t we believe for the IMPOSSIBLE?
- We aren’t willing to be inconvenienced
- We have silver and gold.
- We don’t want to get our hands dirty.
- We expect others to do it.
- We don’t have time in our busy schedules
- We’ve exhausted any and all margin in our day.
- We are afraid to go there.
Peter believed for the impossible. Will you get past all the reasons not to, and do it?
