Sacrifice: The surrender of something of value for the sake of something else.

Sometimes authenticity fails to grab people’s attention; compassion is occasionally written off as the opiate of do-gooders who may have some ulterior motive. But sacrifice, motivated by genuine love and concern, is extremely difficult to discount. It just screams for a response of some kind, which is probably a large part of why Jesus lived such a sacrificial life and then called us to follow in his steps.
