Sermon Title: We are Disciple Making
“Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” - Matthew 28:19-20
What is a DISCIPLE? The Greek word is mathēteúō, math-ayt-yoo'-o.
Means: to follow his precepts and instruction
Our mission: “Helping People Find and Follow Jesus”
”Follow me”: Matthew 4:18-19, John 1:43, Luke 5:27
Jesus said follow me, and they left everything, in that moment and did just that.
Why did they do that? The goal of a disciple:
1. Be with your Rabbi
2. Become like your Rabbi
3. Do as your Rabbi did.
After the Day of Pentecost, Acts 2:41, tells us that 3,000 people gave their life to Jesus as their Lord and Savior. What did the Apostles do to lead these new believers to become dedicated followers of Jesus? 42 All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper), and to prayer. - Acts 2:42
Devoted means: to be earnest towards, to persevere, be constantly diligent, or to adhere closely to.
Discipleship includes an eager desire to learn more of Jesus and God’s Word.
“Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation.” - 1 Peter 2:2
Early Christian fellowship was about giving.
Mealtimes present a tremendous opportunity for us to teach, share, and show that we care for each other.
Want to change the direction of spiritual walk? - Keep praying.
Their devotion to prayer led to:
● Powerful miraculous signs.
● Supernatural generosity
● Overflowing worship
● AND And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.
Only you can devote yourself wholeheartedly.
Matthew 28:19-20 - is not just about you becoming a disciple, but you making disciples yourself!
