Dig Deeper:
1. When you think of the word “gifted,” what comes to mind?
2. Why do we think of some people as being more “gifted” than others? Is this accurate? Why or why not?
3. What first comes to mind when someone talks about “spiritual gifts”?
4. What is the purpose of a spiritual gift? Why does God give them to us?
5. Read Romans 12:3. What does Paul mean when he says, “the grace given to me”? How does thinking sensibly go along with the knowledge that God has given us each a “measure of faith”?
6. C.S. Lewis said, “humility is not thinking less of yourself. It is thinking of yourself less.” How is thinking of yourself less different than thinking less of yourself?
7. Describe how a humble person acts. Describe how a prideful person acts.
8. Read 1 Corinthians 12:4-6. Why are all gifts incredibly valuable and not superior to another?
9. Read John 3:30. How does this happen? Why is it an important part of our walk with Jesus?
10. Read Romans 12:4-5. Why does Paul compare the Church body to the parts of a body?
11. Read Ephesians 4:16. What is the goal of us finding our fit in God’s family?
12. Read 1 Peter 4:10. Why is it vital to be a committed part of the body of Christ? What does it look like to live generously with our gifts, talents, and resources for others?
13. Read 1 Corinthians 12:1. Is awareness of your own spiritual gifts important? Why or why not?
14. How are spiritual gifts different than personality? How are they different from talents?
15. Read Romans 12:6-8. Discuss each spiritual gift listed in this passage and the instruction Paul includes for each one.
16. While we each have specific spiritual gifts, does that mean we are exempt from pursuing to live out the others? Why?
17. Do you know what your spiritual gifts are? How do you discern your spiritual gifts? How do you deploy your spiritual gifts?
