The Text in Context

"We also see grief and despair in the tears of Mary Magdalene. The Greek word used to describe her weeping means loud, uncontrollable wailing. She was despondent that not only had Jesus died, but now she thought they had taken away His body so that she could not give Him a proper burial. It was to people overwhelmed by such a dark cloud of grief that the fact of Jesus’ bodily resurrection broke in with..." Next Steps

1. Write down the ways in which you have seen the Lord at work in your life.

2. Share what you have seen with someone else this week.
Growth Group / Personal Reflection Questions

1. Why is it significant that Mary Magdalene was the first to witness the empty tomb and the resurrected Jesus? Considering her background mentioned in Luke 8:1-2, what might this choice indicate about God's intentions and the nature of Jesus' ministry?

2. In John 20, Mary Magdalene doesn’t recognize Jesus until He calls her by name. Is there special importance given to the idea of hearing Jesus call us personally? If so, why? If not, why not? Have you experienced a moment that you'd describe as God calling you in a personal way? If so, how?

3. How might viewing the resurrection as a factual event alter your faith and daily life? What evidence supports the reality of the resurrection and how can this influence the way we share our faith with others?

4. In verse 17-18, Jesus gives Mary the responsibility to share the news of His resurrection. How does her obedience serve as an example for us? What are some practical ways we can share the hope of the resurrection in our lives?

5. In what ways have you "seen the Lord" in your life or the lives of others?

6. Does the truth that the christian faith rests on the testimony of eyewitnesses encourage you or discourage you? Why?
