You Must Be Born Again
John 3:1-21

Who Is Nicodemus?

Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him.”
John 3:1-2

Who Is Nicodemus?

1. He is a Pharisee- Matt 5:20

2. He is a Member of the Sanhedrin- John 7:50-52

3. He is a Teacher of the Law

4. He has respect for Jesus- John 3:2

The Unasked Question

How Do I Get To Heaven?

The Answer- You Must Be Born Again

Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
John 3:3

The Answer- You Must Be Born Again

Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?”
John 3:4

What Does It Mean?

1. It means in our natural state we cannot get to Heaven.

John 3:4
Romans 3:23, 6:23
Isaiah 64:6

What Does It Mean?
2. It means that we have to be changed to enter Heaven Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.” John 3:5-8

The Good News- This Is Why Jesus Came
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. John 3:16-18

Jesus Came To Save Us

1. He came to pay for our sins.
Romans 5:6-8

2. He came to make us new.
2 Corinthians 5:17-19

3. He came to make us children of God.
John 1:12-13

How Are We Saved?

And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.
John 3:14-15

Jesus Did Not Come To Condemn!

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
John 3:17-18

How Are We Born Again?

And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.
John 3:14-15

The Example Of The Brazen Serpent

And the Lord said to Moses, “Make a fiery serpent and set it on a pole, and everyone who is bitten, when he sees it, shall live.” So Moses made a bronze serpent and set it on a pole. And if a serpent bit anyone, he would look at the bronze serpent and live.
Numbers 21:8-9

How Are We Born Again?

1. Recognize our need

2. Stop trying to save ourselves

3. Put our faith and hope fully in Jesus.
How Should We Respond?

1. Be Born Again!

2. Proclaim the Saving Work of Jesus!

Give

“Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”(2 Corinthians 9:6-7 NIV)
