1. God wants His people to LOVE one another other and get ALONG with each other.
2. Joining together for GOOD or even against a common BAD won’t bring a lasting unity.
“The Old Testament is like a richly furnished room that is only dimly lighted; the introduction of more light doesn’t change what’s in the room; it brings into clearer view what was always there.” - B. B. Warfield
3. To have unity, we first need to have a UNIFIER who is Jesus.
4. UNIFORMITY is not the same thing as unity.
Uniformity:
• the quality or fact of being the same, or of not changing or being different in any way.
Synergy:
• the working together of two things to produce an effect greater than the sum of their individual effects.
5. The Holy Spirit brings unity; we are called to MAINTAIN it.
Biblical Unity:
• the state of believers being joined together as one through Christ, a deep Spiritual connection rooted in shared beliefs, values, and purpose.

Talk About It

Discussion Questions:
1. Many times in the Old Testament God’s people were brought together through a trial, a task or a purpose. What have your experiences been in regards to this type of unity building?

2. In the book of Acts Luke repeatedly said that believers where now brought together ”in one accord” meaning a more Spiritual connectedness that went beyond single purpose. Can you give examples where you’ve noticed this occurring in your family or the Church?

3. Paul talks of being “in accord with Christ Jesus” indicating that only through our unity with God can we build unity with each other. Knowing that God fits his Body together as He wills, in what ways can we maintain unity with each other?

Next Step:
• Paul warns of divisions in the Church countless times because of people’s preferences for or against specific leaders and wanting to argue over “disputable matters”. What lessons have you learned in letting go of things that caused internal or external strife and were not as important as you thought?
