North Platte Berean Church
What Child Is This?
Lights, decorations, presents, the smells of special dishes… Christmas traditions add so much joy to the season! At the root of our joy, of course, is the good news that God, in the person of Jesus, became human to rescue us from sin and death. In his first Advent ("Coming") he lived a perfect life, endured an obedient and sacrificial death, resurrected in triumph, and ascended in glory. And because the child Jesus was the long-expected Deliverer, the whole world can have joy – for God has declared peace on earth and goodwill to men! Join in as we use the four Christmas carols (another joyful tradition!) hidden in that last sentence to help us celebrate Christ's first Advent and anticipate his second.

on Mary’s lap is sleeping?
Whom angels greet with anthems sweet
while shepherds watch are keeping?
whom shepherds guard and angels sing:
Haste, haste to bring him laud,
the babe, the son of Mary.
where ox and lamb are feeding?
Good Christian, fear: for sinners here
the silent Word is pleading.
the cross be borne for me, for you.
Hail, hail the Word made flesh,
the babe, the son of Mary.
come peasant, king, to own him.
The King of kings salvation brings;
let loving hearts enthrone him.
The virgin sings her lullaby.
Joy, joy for Christ is born,
the babe, the son of Mary!
Baptism is a public witness of an internal reality, that the person has passed from death to life by trusting Jesus alone for salvation. Today we’re baptizing Meesha Keeling by Shi Sutter (friend) and Rebeka Sexon (friend).

On this day we'll be hearing from Uziel Romero (our Worship Arts Director) as he shares his heart. After he preaches a shorter sermon, we want to hear from YOU. How have you seen God at work in your life (we call them "God stories")? What is God teaching you right now? We want to take time on this final Sunday of 2024 to highlight the greatness of God as we look back over 2024 and anticipate his movement in 2025!
