Hebrews 6:19-20 – We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, 20 where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf.


1) Christian Hope is Reliable

Many confuse hope with wishful thinking


Wish = Something you would like to happen, but have no confidence it will.



When you put your hope in something,
you’re putting your confidence in something,
and you’re running the risk of being hurt.

Biblical Hope = Based on Jesus.


For an anchor to function correctly:
#1 - It must be attached to you.


John 1:14 – “The Word became flesh and blood,and moved into the neighborhood.” (MSG)

Romans 8:38-39 – “For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers

39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. (ESV)

For an anchor to function correctly:
#1 - It must be attached to you.

#2 - It must go down into the depths where you cannot go.


1 Peter 1:3-4 - 3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In His great mercy He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,


4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you.”

1) Christian Hope is Reliable
2) Christian Hope is Powerful


When there is no hope for the future, there’s no power for the present.

We’re given hope for the future
so we can have power in the present.

Hebrews 12:2-3 - looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.


(3)Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted.” (ESV)

1) Christian Hope is Reliable

3) Christian Hope is Renewable


Isaiah 40:31 – “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”


We must spend more time looking at our eternal hope,
then we do looking at the circumstances around us.
