BOUNDARIES THAT BLESS
1 Thessalonians 4.3-8
Leta Touchstone
Procreation – to bring life. God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply.” Genesis 1.28 (ESV)
Recreation – to bring joy. Enjoy the wife you married as a young man! Lovely as an angel, beautiful as a rose — don’t ever quit taking delight in her body. Proverbs 5.18-19 (MSG)
Combination – to unite two lives as one. A man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one. Genesis 2.24 (NLT)
1 Thessalonians 4.3-8 (NLT) God’s will is for you to be holy, so stay away from all sexual sin. Then each of you will control his own body and live in holiness and honor— not in lustful passion like the pagans who do not know God and his ways. Never harm or cheat a fellow believer in this matter by violating his wife, for the Lord avenges all such sins, as we have solemnly warned you before. God has called us to live holy lives, not impure lives. Therefore, anyone who refuses to live by these rules is not disobeying human teaching but is rejecting God, who gives his Holy Spirit to you.

1 Corinthians 6.18-20 (ESV) Flee from sexual immorality (there’s that word porneia again). Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.
Samuel James. . . Throughout Scripture and throughout human history, fallen, sinful people have used technology to try to invent an alternative reality for themselves, a reality meant to “liberate” then from the fear of the Lord and conformity to his revealed character. From the Tower of Babel to the golden calf, from the slave ships in the Atlantic to the crematoriums of the Third Reich, humans have tried from time immemorial to utilize their ingenuity to manufacture a different world with a different story that the one the Creator made.
We don’t fully appreciate the importance of our sexual side.
1 Corinthians 6.16 (MSG) There’s more to sex than mere skin on skin. Sex is as much spiritual mystery as physical fact.
Sex is more powerful than we realize.
God’s instructions are for our benefit.
