Sunday 10:00 AM

CORPORATE PRAYER:

• Pray for our government leaders to seek and listen to godly counsel.

• Pray for provision and restoration for those still recovering from Hurricane Helene.

• Pray for someone you know that needs to meet Jesus.

• Pray for a humbling, convicting vision of God’s holiness.
• God is not particularly sentimental, reassuring or comforting!
See 2 Corinthians 1:3-4
• The holiness of God is holier than we think.
• Our sin is much worse than we think.
• In all His holiness and "above-ness," God still wants to be close to us.
• God provides a Mediator.
See Hebrews 12:18-24
See Matthew 27:45-46, 50-51
• Jesus is the Mediator between sinners and God.
“God has given us His final most exhaustive, most definitive word in the Person of Jesus Christ. He is everything God wants to say to us.”

— Nancy Guthrie
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:

1. Discuss why we—even in the Church—grow defensive at times when sin is so prominent a subject.

2. Discuss how a deeper study on the holiness of God can help our struggle with sin.

3. Read Exodus 19:9-22 out loud. Describe how Jesus “shows up” in the narrative.

4. Discuss the difference it seems we see between the God of the Old Testament and Jesus in the New Testament.

5. How do we explain this in light of Exodus 19:9-22 (cf 2 Corinthians 5:21, Hebrews 1:2, I Timothy 25-6)?

NEXT STEP:
I will reread the sermon notes from Exodus 19:9-22 and meditate on God’s holiness this week.
