Joy to the World

Joy to the World

Lights, decorations, presents, the smells of special dishes… Christmas traditions add so much joy to the season! At the root of our joy, of course, is the good news that God, in the person of Jesus, became human to rescue us from sin and death. In his first Advent ("Coming") he lived a perfect life, endured an obedient and sacrificial death, resurrected in triumph, and ascended in glory. And because the child Jesus was the long-expected Deliverer, the whole world can have joy – for God has declared peace on earth and goodwill to men! Join in as we use the four Christmas carols (another joyful tradition!) hidden in that last sentence to help us celebrate Christ's first Advent and anticipate his second.

This Week's Sermon:Joy to the World
Joy to the world, the Lord is come!
Let earth receive her King!
Let every heart prepare Him room
And heav’n and nature sing
Joy to the earth, the Savior reigns
Let men their songs employ
while fields and floods,
rocks, hills, and plains
Repeat the sounding joy
No more let sins and sorrows grow
Nor thorns infest the ground
He comes to make his blessings flow
Far as the curse is found
He rules the world
with truth and grace
And make the nations prove
the glories of his righteousness
And wonders of his love
Baptisms:
Baptism is a public witness of an internal reality, that the person has passed from death to life by trusting Jesus alone for salvation. Today we’re baptizing Meesha Keeling by Shi Sutter and Rebecca Sexson (friends) and Eric Rector by Jake Buck and Andrew Walker.

Next Week's Sermon

We'll continue our Advent series, "Christmas Hymns" as we explore the biblical foundations for "I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day." This song, while not as well-known, speaks a timely message for us today. Despair can so easily grip us as it looks like peace on earth and good will to men has been ground up under the hate and mocking of sin. But rest assured, there is good news found in God's character and power in the midst of our world's darkness!
