Dig Deeper:
1. This year we’ve seen a lot of defining moments in the life of our church. What is one moment that you’ve experienced personally?
2. How do defining moments help us recognize what is most important in our lives?
3. Read Romans 8:28. What does this scripture reveal to us about God?
4. A.W. Tozer said, “What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.” What comes into your mind when you think about God?
5. Read Isaiah 6:1. Why is King Uzziah’s death a defining moment in the life of Isaiah?
6. Read Isaiah 6:1-4. Describe what Isaiah saw. Why do you think Isaiah is seeing this at this time?
7. Why are the angels covering their faces and there is smoke present?
8. Read Ephesians 1:21. Describe examples of how God is above all these things listed. What is your response to that?
9. Read Isaiah 6:5. What does Isaiah realize at this moment? Is this surprising coming from Isaiah? Why or why not?
10. Read Isaiah 6:6-7. How does God show mercy to Isaiah in this moment?
11. Read Luke 5:8. How is Simon Peter’s response like Isaiah’s? How are both people an example to us in their response to God?
12. Read Lamentations 3:22-23. How does God respond to us all, including Simon Peter and Isaiah? How have you seen God’s faithfulness in your own life?
13. Read Isaiah 6:8. How are the actions that take place in Isaiah 6:6-7 necessary prior to Isaiah’s response here?
14. Have you ever said, “Yes!,” to God without first knowing the detailed plans He has for you? If so, describe the experience. How was faith a part of that moment?
15. Read Matthew 28:19-20. What are the action steps in this passage? What does God promise?
16. Today, what is your response to the words, “Here I am. Send me.”?
Live It Out:
God is doing something in you so that He can do something through you. Living on mission isn’t something a few people are called to do. Every Christian is called to share God’s love and mercy wherever God has placed us. Let’s follow Jesus faithfully and obediently. Let’s follow him in our homes, across our streets and to the poorest and most overlooked in our cities, to the most unreached and most difficult places in the uttermost parts of the earth.
There are three ways we can be involved in missions:
- Pray: Not everyone is physically able to travel overseas, but we can pray for our missionaries here and around the world.
- Give: Even if we can’t go ourselves, we can help support those from our church community who are called to do so by giving. Our Christmas Offering is an incredible way to give to missions, here and around the world. Pray and ask God how you can participate in giving towards making an impact to people both locally and globally with the love and gospel of Jesus Christ!
- Go: Some in our church are sensing a call to long-term missions. But for those of us that are called to stay here, pray and look into signing up to go on a short-term mission trip next year!
