Love in the Slow Lane

Love in the Slow Lane

What does the Christmas season mean to you? Unless we're careful, it often means overcommitting in both finances and time – buying too much and being run ragged by our packed schedules. So, we're taking a couple weeks before the crush of the season hits to consider how we can live out what Jesus called the greatest commandment: to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength and to love our neighbor as ourselves. How can we be intentional in loving God and neighbor with our treasure and our time this Christmas season?

Beyond Sunday

Growing with Jesus isn’t just for Sundays. Make it an everyday, everywhere, with everyone mission by going “beyond Sunday”!

Engage in these resources on your own and with your Grow Group*, family, or a friend:

Grow
• Learn more about the Good Samaritan parable here: npberean.org/beyond16
• Consider the biblical meaning of the word “love” in this video: npberean.org/beyond17

Share
• We show love for God when we love our “neighbor.” How will you make time this week to love someone well?
• Turn verse 27 into a prayer. (“God help me to…”) Pray this daily. See how God works through this desire to love well.

Connect
• How does feeling “anxious and troubled about many things” (v.41) impact our ability to love as Christ loves us? What should we do instead?
• What practical steps can we take together to slow down and love better this holiday season?
• Listen to or read the lyrics of “Come Thou Long
Expected Jesus.” Then explore Gen. 3:15, Isa. 9:6, Matt. 6:10, and Eph. 2:4-6 together to prepare for next week’s sermon.
