Do you ever wonder why bad people prosper?
Jeremiah can be difficult to read without some assistance.
Jeremiah is the longest book in scripture by word count.
Jeremiah can be a little confusing because it's not written in chronological order.
Is our current culture moving closer or further away from God?
What do we do with that?
1 - We should just quit!
2 - We should just riot.
Jeremiah was an Israelite priest who lived and worked in Jerusalem about 600 years before Jesus is born. He was called by God as a prophet to warn Israel about the severe consequences of breaking their covenant with God through their idolatry and injustice. So Jeremiah is urging people to turn back to God. And we can learn today from what he wrote to them in that day.
When we understand a text in context, (at a minimum) the principle of the text can speak to us as it did to them.
When you feel worn out from what you see around you, how do you want God to answer you?
Usain Bolt can run about 27 miles per hour.
Riley Beebe can run about a little over 13 miles an hour.
A cat can run about 29 miles an hour.
A dog can run about 39 miles an hour.
American Quarter Horses are known for their short-distance speed and have been clocked at a top speed of 55 mph.
God is telling Jeremiah, “If you're worn out with what's currently happening culturally, how are you ever going to deal with when it gets worse? And by the way, Jeremiah, it's going to get worse.”
Did you know a horse is faster than a man in a sprint, but not in an endurance race?
God designed us as humans to beat almost any animal in the animal kingdom in a long distance endurance race, but not in a sprint. And I think that's a good analogy because - is this life a sprint or a marathon? (marathon).
And God designed you - no matter what's going on - to have the endurance to win any race, including the current race that we are facing culturally with a cultural slide around us.
I have to acknowledge reality that it may get worse before it gets better.
Instead of chasing comfort, embrace challenge.
Love is the environment of change, not anger.
You can choose comfort or you can choose growth, but you cannot have both.
I have to stop focusing on what's wrong and start focusing on what I can make right.
You can make excuses or you can make progress, but you can't do both.
And you have to figure out what kind of disciple of Jesus are you going to be.
Living On Mission
I need to run with the horses with my marriage.
I may need to run with the horses with the next generation.
I may need to run with the horses with a neighbor, a coworker, a family member or a friend that doesn't need Jesus.
Core Value of Journey
Faith is a lifelong journey. We will meet people where they are, not where we wish they were, and will risk getting our hands messy to help them become a disciple of Jesus who makes disciples.
