Scriptures: Genesis 1:26-31, 2 Peter 3:8-10, Isaiah 53:7-12
A theodicy is a thoughtful argument to defend God in response to the problem of evil and suffering in our world.
A theodicy for addressing evil and suffering in our world
1. God’s original plan was good (Genesis 1-2)
2. Humanity sinned and brought evil and suffering into the world (Genesis 3)
3. Satan is a source of evil and suffering in our world (John 10:10; 1 Peter 5:8)
Three good ways God has responded to sin and evil brought into his creation
He promised a new heaven and earth (Revelation 21:1, 4)
2. He delayed justice and mercy (Romans 3:10-11; Ezekial 18:32; 2 Peter 3:9)
3. He began a plan to save people (Isaiah 53:7-12)
A couple of thoughts on how we endure evil and suffering as Christians.
1. Trust God within the mystery of suffering
2. Don’t waste a good suffering (Romans 5:3-4; James 1:2-3; 2 Corinthians 11:23-27)
