Sunday 7:00 AM
The Philistines assembled to fight Israel, with three thousand chariots, six thousand charioteers, and soldiers as numerous as the sand on the seashore. 1 Samuel 13:5a
What were the comments made to me that I never forgot?
When we live a life without God we don’t realize we’re living a life that’s out of focus.
Where do you need to focus your life to make your best contribution?
Today, we're talking about three words that leap from this text....
Our first word is FOCUS
Focus on what matters now.
Focus on what’s going to matter in the future.
Our second word is LEVERAGE
You can’t force someone to do something, but….your life can have a magnetic pull on them.

Invest in people….who invest in people
1 Samuel 14:12b
So Jonathan said to his armor-bearer, “Climb up after me; the Lord has given them into the hand of Israel.” 1 Samuel 14:12b
What is the mark I need to make this week?
Write it down.
We’re all marked by others.
I want to encourage you to not underestimate the effect of your life.

Life Group Questions from 11-3-24
OPEN:
What is your relationship to risk on a scale from 1 - 10? A one is, "no risk for me ever" and a 10 would be, "I love risk."
In the message on Sunday, we asked the question, "What were the comments that were made to you that you never forgot?" Can you share with others?
DIG:
In 1 Samuel 14 we saw that Jonathan had to focus and choose to enter the battle. Jonathan chose to leverage his life which influenced his father and we could see how he invested in the life of his armor bearer and included him in the victory.
1. "When we live a life without God we don’t realize we’re living a life that’s out of focus." How have you seen this to be true in your life or someone else?
2. Where do you need to focus your life to make your best contribution?
3. On Sunday we discussed "Focus on what matters now" and "focus on what's going to matter in the future." How can people focus on what's "going to matter" in the future?
4. Share a story about a time someone tried to force someone else to do something unsuccessfully.
Read 1 Samuel 14:16-17, 20a
Saul’s lookouts at Gibeah in Benjamin saw the army melting away in all directions. 17Then Saul said to the men who were with him, “Muster the forces and see who has left us.” When they did, it was Jonathan and his armor-bearer who were not there. 1 Samuel 14:16-17
Then Saul and all his men assembled and went to the battle..
1 Samuel 14:20a
5. When they mustered the troops to see who had left them, how do you think Saul would have reacted if it were a couple of guys he didn't know?
6. Can you think of a time that someone had a magnet effect on your life?
7. We discussed how Jonathan included his armor bearer and chose to not see him as someone who would just "slow him down." Tell about a time that someone chose to invest in you?
8. Read 1 Samuel 14:12b
So Jonathan said to his armor-bearer, “Climb up after me; the Lord has given them into the hand of Israel.” 1 Samuel 14:12b
Jonathan didn't say "the Lord has given them into the hand of...Jonathan!" He realizes he's a part of something bigger than himself.
When have you had a sense that what's going on in your life "is bigger" than you? (Think family, life, career, kids, etc.)
Our lives have an impact on each other. Do you think you tend to underestimate the effect of your life?
REFLECT:
"What mark do you need to make with your life this week?" If you were here Sunday, can you share what you wrote down?
