Compassion

· The emotion roused by undeserved affliction in others and containing an element of fear as well as mercy
· lit. bowels; pity that arises from the core of a person for someone else

Main Points

1) Jesus’ compassion moves toward sinners instead of looking down on them.

What do we need to do to obey and be like Jesus in compassion
§ Be like Him by being with people who have spiritual needs
§ Fight Pharisee heart disease (looking down on people with deep spiritual needs)
§ Cultivate mercy (compassion) for those people in our lives rather than being disgusted by the “spiritual filthiness” in their lives.

2) Jesus’ compassion sees the needs of troubled people and pursues a solution.

3) Jesus’ compassion-fueled forgiveness moves first.
