Direct communication with God happens between our spirit and His.
We can be engaging in conversation with God as a normal part of everyday life.
Foundations of Listening Prayer:
Prepare:
1) Withdraw from distraction
2) Honestly face the different parts of who you are
3) Tell God you are willing to surrender to His answer
Ask:
4) Ask a question God has not already answered
5)Notice what you feel/hear.
6) Write it down or say it to someone

Often God uses the Bible to help differentiate between the different sides of who you are.

The fifth foundation is to create space to sit with the question in your heart and pay attention to what you feel and hear.

Sometimes, an answer will come clearly; other times, there might be a picture or what might seem like an unrelated thought or even just a general sense.
If as we listen, we are still not hearing or sensing anything, there are a few possible reasons:
- We are too emotionally invested in the outcome
- We are asking the wrong question... (he will let you know)
- Something is getting in the road of your relationship with Him
- God might want to give you the freedom to make a decision

Listening Prayer is powerful when done with other people all seeking Jesus's opinion on a particular question.
Small Group Questions:
1) When would you say you have heard God's direction in a matter?
2) How do you retreat to have time with God?
3) What questions would you like God to answer now?
4) What question could we ask God as a group?
5) Take time as a group to ask God the question in prayer.
