1. Verse 7 reads "seek the welfare of the city". Even in places of hardship, how can this verse encourage us to make the best of our circumstances?
2. Verses 8-9 urge the exiles not to listen to false prophets offering false hope. Read Deuteronomy 18:20-22. According to Deuteronomy, what is the test for whether or not a prophet is from God? How can we apply this test to our world today?
3. Verse 11 is a favorite because of its message of hope. How does the broader context of exile change or deepen the meaning of this verse?
How might this principle apply to our lives when we feel disconnected from God's aspirations for us?
4. Verse 14 promises a return from exile, shows God’s faithfulness, and a need for patience. How can we stay patient and trust God’s timing when we are waiting for resolution and direction?
5. God, through Jeremiah, encourages the exiles to "build homes" and to "seek the welfare of the city." How can we follow these instructions in our lives? What might it mean to "build houses" today?
