Introduction:
1 Samuel 21:10 NASB
10 Then David arose and fled that day from Saul, and went to Achish king of Gath.
Pressure either refines or confines you.

Psalm 57 NASB
Prayer for Rescue from Persecutors.
For the choir director; set to Al-tashheth. A Mikhtam of David, when he fled from Saul in the cave.
1 Be gracious to me, O God, be gracious to me,
For my soul takes refuge in You;
And in the shadow of Your wings I will take refuge
Until destruction passes by.
2 I will cry to God Most High,
To God who accomplishes all things for me.
3 He will send from heaven and save me;
He reproaches him who tramples upon me. Selah.
God will send forth His lovingkindness and His truth.

The pressure to perform. “Be gracious to me, O God, be gracious to me,”
Self-reliance leads to burnout. (1 Sam. 21:13)
God cares more about our character than our comfort.
God cares more about our holiness than our happiness.

4 My soul is among lions;
I must lie among those who breathe forth fire,
Even the sons of men, whose teeth are spears and arrows
And their tongue a sharp sword.
5 Let Your glory be above all the earth.
6 They have prepared a net for my steps;
My soul is bowed down;
They dug a pit before me;
They themselves have fallen into the midst of it. Selah.

5 Let Your glory be above all the earth.

7 My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast;
I will sing, yes, I will sing praises!
8 Awake, my glory!
Awake, harp and lyre!
I will awaken the dawn.
9 I will give thanks to You, O Lord, among the peoples;
I will sing praises to You among the nations.
10 For Your lovingkindness is great to the heavens
And Your truth to the clouds.
11 Let Your glory be above all the earth.

Psalms: Prayers for the Peaks and Valleys
Psalm 57 Pastor Lance Ainsworth

Praise in the Cave.
Prayer Requests:
Group Discussion: Pumpkin pie or cheesecake?
Read Aloud: Psalm 57
1. v. 1 “For my soul takes refuge in You; And in the shadow of Your wings I will take refuge” Do you agree with this statement, “Self-reliance leads to burnout.” Why or why not? Why is prayer sometimes our last resort instead of our first response?
2. Which of the following five categories of significant pressures in life do you identify with the most? Would you add any? How has the pressure of life strengthened your relationship with God?
Financial Stress
Relationships
Health
Work-Life Balance
Uncertainty about the Future
3. v.9 “9 I will give thanks to You, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing praises to You among the nations.” David chose to praise God in the middle of the cave and uncertainty. What role does praising God have in shifting our attitude in trials? How can God use your current trial for His glory?
