The more I study and proceed in this Fed by Ravens series, the more I’m convinced that the “spirit of Jezebel” is at work in our nation and in our world. It’s a time for caution. I’m not talking about her ghost; rather the same demonic, nefarious spiritual forces working in and through her are working in and through people today to turn people from the truth. Similarly, John the Baptist was acting “in the spirit and power of Elijah” (Luke 1:17). It’s not that Elijah was possessing John, but that John exhibited a character and disposition similar to Elijah’s. That’s what I mean by “Jezebel spirit.” The “Jezebel spirit” is a symbolic representation of her attributes — a spirit of idolatry, seduction, manipulation, and rebellion against God’s authority (see Revelation 2:20-22). So today, we do a character sketch of Jezebel.

PROPOSITION
I want to make THREE KEY OBSERVATIONS about Jezebel’s life and talk to you about the ways her spirit is moving in our personal, national, and ecclesiastical life. When there’s a “Jezebel Spirit” there’s an “Elijah Spirit” that rises up to offer clarity. These are the days of Elijah. Paul Wilber (who sang this song) has encouraged us to let go of burdens, forgive others, and choose joy in all circumstances, knowing that God’s salvation is at hand. So, get the harvest ready. Believers have a crucial role in voicing the message of God in the world. The mention of the year of Jubilee in the chorus has motivated me to embrace a mindset of freedom and restoration.

I’m not an Elijah. But I humbly entreat you this morning: If you’re spiritually dry and thirsty from years of drought, there’s a small cloud in the distance and it’s the sound of abundance of rain. Why don’t you come and turn things over to God today? Someday the King will arrive.
