Introduction
Psalm 2 NASB The Reign of the Lord’s Anointed.

1 Why are the nations in an uproar
And the peoples devising a vain thing?

2 The kings of the earth take their stand
And the rulers take counsel together
Against the Lord and against His Anointed, saying,

3 “Let us tear their fetters apart
And cast away their cords from us!”
The rebellion of sin.
4 He who sits in the heavens laughs,
The Lord scoffs at them.
5 Then He will speak to them in His anger
And terrify them in His fury, saying,
6 “But as for Me, I have installed My King
Upon Zion, My holy mountain.”
The response of God.

7 “I will surely tell of the decree of the Lord:
He said to Me, ‘You are My Son,
Today I have begotten You.
8 ‘Ask of Me, and I will surely give the nations as Your inheritance,
And the very ends of the earth as Your possession.
9 ‘You shall break them with a rod of iron,
You shall shatter them like earthenware.’”
The work of Jesus.
10 Now therefore, O kings, show discernment;
Take warning, O judges of the earth.
11 Worship the Lord with reverence
And rejoice with trembling.
12 Do homage to the Son, that He not become angry, and you perish in the way,
For His wrath may soon be kindled.
How blessed are all who take refuge in Him!
The qualifications for submission.
“The rulers of the world rage against Christ. But why should you? The hands he holds forth for you to kiss are hands that were pierced by nails when he was crucified in your place. One day he is coming as the great judge of all. On that day the wicked will be punished, but today is the day of his grace. He invites you to come to him. Group Discussion: What is the most essential quality of a leader, and why?

Read Aloud: Psalm 2

1. v.3 “Let us tear their fetters apart and cast away their cords from us!” Why do people rage against God’s authority? Do you see God’s authority as a hindrance? Why is Jesus so controversial?

2. v.4-6 “4 He who sits in the heavens laughs, The Lord scoffs at them. 5 Then He will speak to them in His anger and terrify them in His fury, saying, 6 “But as for Me, I have installed My King upon Zion, My holy mountain.” What is God’s response to man’s attempt to live without him? Do you see God as nervous about what’s going on in the world today?

3. v.8-9 “8 ‘Ask of Me, and I will surely give the nations as Your inheritance, and the very ends of the earth as Your possession. 9 ‘You shall break them with a rod of iron,
You shall shatter them like earthenware.’” The message of Jesus has spread across the ends of the earth as promised in Psalm 2. We are partners with Jesus to share His message of kingship with the world. Do you feel comfortable sharing the gospel message? Why or why not?

4. v.10-12 “10 Now therefore, O kings, show discernment; Take warning, O judges of the earth. 11 Worship the Lord with reverence and rejoice with trembling.12 Do homage to the Son, that He not become angry, and you perish in the way, For His wrath may soon be kindled. How blessed are all who take refuge in Him!” How do we worship with reverence and rejoice with trembling? How does further understanding of the sovereignty, majesty, and holiness of God effect how we worship?
