"The spurious stories in Genesis are simply absurd. Yet, they do represent a conceptual framework from the undisciplined imagination of a prescientific age." - James H Birx
"There are degrees of being wrong. The Creationists are at the bottom of the scale…Their arguments are rotten, through and through." - Michael Ruse
"Religions are all alike–founded upon fables and mythologies." - Thomas Jefferson
We should learn from BOTH science AND scripture.
"I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use." - Galileo
When you find a contradiction between science and scripture, your understanding of one or both is incorrect.
"Christianity and science are opposed…but only in the same sense as that which my thumb and forefinger are opposed–and between them, I can grasp everything." - Sir William Bragg, Nobel Prize for Physics
Science doesn’t contradict the creation account of Genesis, it actually confirms it.
6 Biblical Reasons to Believe in an Old Earth:
1. It never says 24 hours.
2. There is no sun until day four.
"To what person of intelligence, I ask, will the account seem logically consistent that says there was a “first day” and a “second” and a “third,” in which also “evening” and “morning” are named, without a sun, without a moon and without stars? And even in the case of the first day--without a heaven?... Surely, I think no one doubts that these statements are made by Scripture in the form of a type by which they point toward certain mysteries." - Origen of Alexandria
3. The word “day” doesn’t always mean 24 hours.
4. Day six appears longer than 24 hours.
5. The seventh day demonstrates a theological purpose for the first six “days.”
6. The Scriptures describe the earth as very old.
"The God who made the firmament,
Who made the deepest sea,
The God who put the stars in place
Is the God who cares for me." - Berg
