Series: Romans
Title: Living Sacrifice
Romans 12:14-18
“Christians being Christians” - Dr. Tyler Smiley

In Romans 1-11, Paul teaches what Christians believe.

In Romans 12, Paul teaches how Christians behave.

People cannot consistently behave in ways that are inconsistent with what they believe. - Neil T. Anderson
5-Fold Confession:

1. God is who He says He is. - Exodus 3:14, Psalm 145:8,9

2. God can do what He says He can do. - Luke 1:37

3. I am who God says I am. - Rom. 5:1,8; Rom. 8:1,16,39; Rom. 15:7

4. I can do all things through Christ Who strengthens me. - Phil. 4:13

5. God’s word is alive and active in me. - Col. 3:16 & Hebrews 4:12
Discipleship Through Relationship
Growing To Be Like Through Doing Life Together
14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them.

When the circumstances of life are the same, but you respond differently, you can know you are growing in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ (See 2 Peter 3:18)
15 Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.

Envy weeps with those who rejoice and rejoices with those who weep.
16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight.

We are different (Romans 12:6), but in Christ we use our differences to unite us and not divide us.

The Antidote for Haughtiness

1. Associate with the humble. - Proverbs 13:20
2. Let others praise you and not yourself - Proverbs 27:2
17 Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all.

How do we give thought to do what is honorable?
1. We have to live and walk by the Spirit and not be controlled by the
flesh. - Galatians 5:25
2. We must see all people as image bearers of God. - Genesis 1:26,27
3. We have to regard others as more important than ourselves.
- Philippians 2:3,4
18 If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.

If in order to resolve a conflict…

- God’s Word has to be ignored
- Your conscience has to be violated
- Ethics have to be abandoned
- Laws have to be broken
- Morals have to be shunned
Then it may not be possible to resolve the issue.
