- At the age of 75, Abraham (Abraham) is called by God to leave the city he lives in for the land that God will show him.
- At age 85, God promises Abraham that he will have a son. Genesis 15:6 – “Abram believed the Lord, and he credited to him as righteousness.”
- Abraham has a son with his Egyptian servant, Hagar, and that doesn’t turn out well.
- At age 99, Abraham was again promised a son through Sarah and was told to circumcise his household as a sign of the covenant between them.
- At age 100 (Abraham) and 90 (Sarah), Isaac is born.

What is faith?
1. Faith is something completely different from “works” (v.3-8)
2. Faith does not depend on any religious ceremony (v.9-12)
3. Faith is not related to the law (v.13-17)
4. Faith often rests in a promise that flies in the face of what is natural and normal (v.18-22)

“And therein lies the secret of faith: faith is always strong or weak depending on how we perceive the object of our faith. Is the God to whom we look weak in our eyes? Then we will have weak faith. Is our God strong in our eyes? Then our faith will grow strong accordingly. There was nothing in Abraham that gave him strong faith, but there was everything in God that gave him strong faith.”
