Faith Culture: Healing for the Nations
2 Kings 5:1-27
September 22, 2024

2 Kings 5:1-36
Now Naaman was commander of the army of the king of Aram.

2 Kings 5:1-36
Now Naaman was commander of the army of the king of Aram. He was a great man in the sight of his master and highly regarded, because through him the Lord had given victory to Aram.

God’s Kingdom covers every earthly place.

2 Kings 5:1-36
… He was a valiant soldier, but he had leprosy.
Now bands of raiders from Aram had gone out and had taken captive a young girl from Israel, and she served Naaman’s wife.

2 Kings 5:1-36
She said to her mistress, “If only my master would see the prophet who is in Samaria! He would cure him of his leprosy.”

God’s Kingdom covers every earthly place.
God’s people trust the power of grace.

2 Kings 5:1-36
The letter that he took to the king of Israel read: “With this letter I am sending my servant Naaman to you so that you may cure him of his leprosy.”

2 Kings 5:1-36
As soon as the king of Israel read the letter, he tore his robes and said, “Am I God? Can I kill and bring back to life? Why does this fellow send someone to me to be cured of his leprosy? See how he is trying to pick a quarrel with me!”

2 Kings 5:1-36
Then Naaman and all his attendants went back to the man of God. He stood before him and said, “Now I know that there is no God in all the world except in Israel. So please accept a gift from your servant.”
The prophet answered, “As surely as the Lord lives, whom I serve, I will not accept a thing.” And even though Naaman urged him, he refused.

2 Kings 5:1-36
“. . . your servant will never again make burnt offerings and sacrifices to any other god but the Lord.”

God’s Kingdom covers every earthly place.
God’s people trust the power of grace.
God’s grace chases even the hardest case.

2 Kings 5:1-36
. . . After Naaman had traveled some distance, Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said to himself, “My master was too easy on Naaman, this Aramean, by not accepting from him what he brought. As surely as the Lord lives, I will run after him and get something from him.”

Luke 4:18-29
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

Luke 4:18-29
All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his lips.“Isn’t this Joseph’s son?” they asked.

Luke 4:18-29
“I assure you that there were many widows in Israel in Elijah’s time, when the sky was shut for three and a half years and there was a severe famine throughout the land. Yet Elijah was not sent to any of them, but to a widow in Zarephath in the region of Sidon. And there were many in Israel with leprosy in the time of Elisha the prophet, yet not one of them was cleansed—only Naaman the Syrian.”

Luke 4:18-29
All the people in the synagogue were furious when they heard this. They got up, drove him out of the town, and took him to the brow of the hill on which the town was built, in order to throw him off the cliff.

God’s Kingdom covers every earthly place.
God’s people trust the power of grace.
God’s grace chases even the hardest case.

Revelation 7:9-10
After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. And they cried out in a loud voice: “Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.”
