Sermon Title: Do you heal like Jesus?
Text: Matt. 8:14-17

And he went throughout all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction among the people. Matt. 4:23

He touched her hand, and the fever left her, and she rose and began to serve him. 16 That evening they brought to him many who were oppressed by demons, and he cast out the spirits with a word and healed all who were sick. 17 This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: “He took our illnesses and bore our diseases.” Matt. 8:15-17

Point 1: Like Jesus, we find ourselves living in a world of hurting people.

“There is a God shaped vacuum in the heart of every man which cannot be filled by any created thing, but only by God, the Creator, made known through Jesus.” Blaise Pascal

But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God. Isa. 59:2

Point 2: We need to bring those who are hurting to Jesus to be healed.

And when Jesus entered Peter's house, he saw his mother-in-law lying sick with a fever. Matt. 8:14

And when he returned to Capernaum after some days, it was reported that he was at home. 2 And many were gathered together, so that there was no more room, not even at the door. And he was preaching the word to them. 3 And they came, bringing to him a paralytic carried by four men. Mark 2:1-3

Point 3: Like Jesus, we should have compassion upon those who need healing.

But if you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.” Mark 9:22
But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities" upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. Isa 53:5-6

Point 4: Like Jesus, we have the Holy Spirit who can empower us to heal in Jesus’ name.

On one of those days, as he was teaching, Pharisees and teachers of the law were sitting there, who had come from every village of Galilee and Judea and from Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was with him to heal. Luke 5:17

And all the crowd sought to touch him, for power came out from him and healed them all. Luke 6:19

God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. Acts 10:38

And these signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18 they will pick up serpents with their hands; and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.” Mark 16:17-18

For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit. 1 Cor. 12:8-9

Application

1. Be a peacemaker, a healer of relationships.

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.” Matt 5:9

2. Bring those you know who are hurting in prayer or person to Jesus.

Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. James 5:14-15

3. Pray for the spiritual gift of healing.

Pursue love, and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy. 1 Cor. 14:1

4. If you’re hurting today, Jesus wants to heal you.

He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. 1 Pet. 2:24
