God’s Redemptive Plan

God’s Redemptive Plan

In the first half of Romans, Paul laid out the foundations of the gospel (ch. 1-4) and the fruit it bears in our lives (ch. 5-8). He ended in the highest heights, delighting in the gifts we have through faith in Christ. The Holy Spirit. Adoption into God's family. Future glory to which our present sufferings pale in comparison. And the assurance that NOTHING can separate us from God's love – it's a covenant he has made with us through the death and resurrection of his Son! But wait…didn't God make promises to Israel, who were also his covenant people? And not all Israel received Jesus, so did God's covenant fail? How are we to think about this – about Israel, about God's faithfulness? As Paul addresses these questions, he seems to hold God's election (choosing) in tension with human responsibility (to choose God)…how do we make sense of that? Above all, can we really trust that God is faithful, even when we're struggling to see it? (Spoiler: we absolutely can!)

Beyond Sunday

Growing with Jesus isn’t just for Sundays. Make it an everyday, everywhere, with everyone mission by going “beyond Sunday”!

Engage in these resources on your own and with your Grow Group*, family, or a friend:

Grow
• To better understand how gentiles are “grafted” into God’s family read this article: npberean.org/beyond21
• Look up “mercy” in a dictionary. Which definition best describes God’s actions toward both Jews and Gentiles? Why?

Share
• Reflect on God’s kindness towards you. How does knowing this motivate you to treat others more kindly this week?
• Listen to “His Mercy is More” (npberean.org/beyond22) Then share this song and what it means to you with someone who needs Jesus.

Connect
• How might knowing we’ve been grafted into God’s family lead us to pride or arrogance? What should we do as believers to avoid these pitfalls?
• Honestly share with others the current state of your heart. How can this vulnerability protect our hearts from being hardened?
• Explore Job 2:11-13 and 42:7-8 together to prepare for next week’s sermon.

* Connecting in community with other believers is crucial for spiritual growth. Explore group options at npberean.org/gg

Next Week's Sermon

In this life, hardship is inevitable. We live in a broken world where pain, sorrow, disappointment and loss are as sure as death and taxes. Live long enough and you'll experience brokenness of relationships and even the death of loved ones. Part of our role as shepherds of God's flock is to get us ready for the moments when these trials assail. For the next three weeks we're going to be exploring Job's story to understand truth that can enable us to move well through the storms of life that assail both us and those we love.
