Small Group Questions: Finding Our Rhythm with Jesus
Ice Breaker:
If you could choose any sound in the world to wake up to every morning, what would it be and why? (It can be as silly or as outrageous as you want - maybe the roar of a dinosaur, the sound of bacon sizzling, or a mariachi band playing right next to your bed!)
Discussion Questions:
1. Read Luke 10:38-42 again. In the story of Mary and Martha, which sister do you relate to more? Why? How does this affect your daily life and your relationship with God?
Additional Scripture: Philippians 4:6-7 - How might this passage relate to Martha's state of mind?
2. The sermon talked about three rhythms: Worship (learning from God's Word), Relationship (resting in God's presence), and Service (doing things for God and others). Which of these do you find easiest to prioritize? Which is the most challenging?
Additional Scriptures:
- Worship: Psalm 119:105
- Relationship: Psalm 46:10
- Service: 1 Peter 4:10
Discuss how these verses illuminate each aspect of our spiritual rhythm.
3. Think about a recent stressful or busy time in your life. How might applying the lessons from Mary and Martha's story have changed your approach to that situation?
Additional Scripture: Matthew 11:28-30 - How does Jesus' invitation here relate to the Mary and Martha story?
4. The sermon used the analogy of reading glasses to describe how Scripture brings clarity to our lives. Can you share an experience where studying God's Word helped you see a situation more clearly?
Additional Scripture: Hebrews 4:12 - How does this verse describe the power of God's Word in our lives?
5. What is one practical step you can take this week to better align your daily rhythm with Jesus? How can the group support you in this?
Additional Scripture: James 1:22 - How does this verse challenge us to apply what we've learned?
Closing Reflection: Read Psalm 23 together. How does this psalm encapsulate the idea of finding our rhythm with Jesus? What verse stands out to you most in light of our discussion?
