Faith Culture: Empty Faith
2 Kings 4:1-7
September 1, 2024

2 Kings 4:1-7
The wife of a man from the company of the prophets cried out to Elisha, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that he revered the Lord. But now his creditor is coming to take my two boys as his slaves.”

2 Kings 4:1-7
Elisha replied to her, “How can I help you? Tell me, what do you have in your house?”
“Your servant has nothing there at all,” she said, “except a small jar of olive oil.”

We serve a God who specializes in doing a lot with a little.

We serve a God who specializes in doing a lot with a little.
Maybe our problem isn’t in the amount of faith but a misplaced faith.

I tend to put my faith in the one who can fix my fears the fastest.

2 Kings 4:1-7
Elisha said, “Go around and ask all your neighbors for empty jars. Don’t ask for just a few. Then go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour oil into all the jars, and as each is filled, put it to one side.”

Offer God all you have and trust him to give you all you need.

2 Kings 4:1-7
She left him and shut the door behind her and her sons. They brought the jars to her and she kept pouring. When all the jars were full, she said to her son, “Bring me another one.”
But he replied, “There is not a jar left.” Then the oil stopped flowing.
She went and told the man of God, and he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debts. You and your sons can live on what is left.”

Offer God all you have and trust him to give you all you need.

Matthew 6:26
“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?”

Psalm 139:13
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

Psalm 4:8
In peace, I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.

2 Corinthians 4:7
But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.

All God needs is all you have.
