A Reminder of What We’ve Confirmed

A summary of logical conclusions from the last 4 sermons:

Now that we’ve confirmed the Father as the 1st person of the Trinity, let’s go on to confirming Christ as fully God and the 2nd person of the Trinity.

Biblical Evidence for God the Son

The Bible specifically and repeatedly addresses Christ as God in scripture.

NOTE: Because some folks will argue that “God” and “Savior” are shown as separate in this verse to attack evidence of the Trinity, we should note the importance of the Granville Sharp Rule.

Remember that “Logos” (Λόγος) in this instance = __________

Jesus addressed HIMSELF as God:

Here’s an attack (usually JW or Muslim): But what about Colossians 1:15 where Jesus is called the “firstborn of creation”? We only need to read a few verses further for the answer.

Because “all things” means all things created and He existed before creation, then He cannot be created.

“Firstborn” (πρωτότοκος or prōtotokos) has one of 3 meanings:

1. First-born,
2. Eldest, or
3. Pre-eminent (the highest position).

This reference is clearly positioned as pre-eminence or that of the highest position. The scripture wouldn’t contradict itself over the next 2 verses.

He exists outside of space, time, and matter.

He is infinite and eternal.

He is the Creator.

He is unchanging / immutable.

He is omniscient (all-knowing).

He is omnipresent (everywhere).

He is omnipotent (all-powerful).

He examines the heart of man.

He dwells within believers.

He sanctifies us.

· Believe or (πιστεύω / “pisteuó”) = to believe, have faith in, or entrust

· Repent or (μετανοέω / “metanoeó”) = to change one’s mind or purpose; change the inner man

In reality, a person cannot truly believe unless they repent (change their mind), and one cannot truly repent (change their mind) unless they believe.

Fruit Is a Byproduct of Salvation

Salvation is Permanent

NOTE: If a person is living in unrepentant perpetual sin and has no conviction of that sin, they were likely never saved to begin with.
