How to give to your church
Friends, giving financially is both an act of worship and a vital ministry. The best way to give to your church is through online giving. Whether via email transfer or Canada Helps. The instruction and link (in the case of Canada Helps) are on our church website. Alternatively, you can also mail checks to the church address: 6 Kilburn Place, Etobicoke, ON, M9R 2X5.
Your giving funds our local ministry including a food bank that feeds over 170 families in Etobicoke, support programs for the hurting (Divorce Care, Griefshare and more), mission partnerships in Europe, Southeast Asia, India and in Canada.

Intro:
The Sermon on the mount is considered the greatest sermon given. The first of five discourses that Matthew organized his Gospel on. It is also the most quoted.

2 And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying:
3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

Ways to look at the Sermon on the Mount:
It calls to the church- provides a way for the citizens of heaven to relate with the citizens of world
It points to heaven- the guidelines are hard, strive to live it. Know that God’s work in us is ongoing and will not be completed till Jesus comes again.
It pierces the soul- it penetrates the heart
It cries for calvary- there is a tension for what is and what ought to be

What about Matthew 5:4?
This is not about mourning for the loss of a loved one.
instead, it is saying that-
Those who repent will find comfort (after all, spiritual sin led us to poverty of spirit, which should cause us to mourn).

The people of God mourn over the sins of the people
135 Make your face shine upon your servant, and teach me your statutes. 136 My eyes shed streams of tears, because people do not keep your law. Psalm 119:135-136
4 And the Lord said to him, “Pass through the city, through Jerusalem, and put a mark on the foreheads of the men who sigh and groan over all the abominations that are committed in it.”
Ezekiel 9:4

How do you compare the sermon on the mount in Matthew and Luke?
Similarities:
Both begins with the beatitudes, ends with the foolish and wise builders, contains the golden rule and is followed by Jesus going to Capernaum.
Differences:
Both contain information not found in the other, M(107) while L (30), Luke’s beatitudes are purely physical, Matthew’s more spiritual, Matthew has the Sermon on the mount and Luke on the plain.
Observation:
Both wrote about a single sermon with historic reality- location- what happened after- in the case of Matthew a specific crowd reaction- astonishment.
Jesus likely preached the same basic sermon on two separate occasions.
