Elements City Church
Joy Full - Philippians 2:1-11
Into the me-centric culture of our day comes an ancient calling to be counter cultural. A call for us to invest our life with an others kinda focus. A challenge to foster and cultivate a mindset like Jesus and to reflect his heart that sought to serve others above himself. The Apostle Paul is writing to the church back then and today - challenging us to mimic this mindset of our Savior and see the transformation it creates within us and the world.

It has much to still teach us and to help us today as we seek to walk in the ways of Jesus.
In humility, consider others more important than yourselves.
C.S. Lewis Quote:
“humility isn’t thinking less of yourself, it’s thinking of yourself less.”
We live with humility that says — I want to consider others more important than myself. I want to take thought of others and not just stay focused in on me. That is a counter cultural mindset - it's the mindset of Christ. Living for others is at the heart of what it means to be a godly man or woman.

*Most scholars believe that verses 6–11 are from a hymn sung by the early Christian church. Paul was using this hymn to show Jesus as a model of servanthood.
Read Philippians 2:5-11 as a whole and watch the beauty of Jesus shine forth...
Jesus Christ was not an assistant to God. Jesus Christ has never been a vice-president to God. Jesus Christ has never been a junior partner to God but a full-fledged member of the Godhead (Trinity), equal with the Almighty Father & Spirit in every way, shape, and form, from eternity past.
Yet, he stepped forward on a search and rescue mission for humanity and did what only God could do. Came down to earth, so that through faith in Him, we could one day make our entrance into heaven via His grace.
(Q) How willing are you to relax your grip on your prerogatives and privileges? How loosely do you hold your position, power, & possessions?

4 ACTION STEPS to consider:
Stop keeping score.
*it’s so easy in our culture to want to keep score! You owe me – I did that for you. I have given out to you, so now you give back...an entitlement mentality corrupts a servants heart every time!
PRACTICE MOST WITH THOSE THAT ARE CLOSE.
the best kind of service begins and is best lived out within proximity!
SERVING = WORSHIP
Do it for Jesus. (Because He did it for you) see: Matthew 25
Practice little acts of service everyday in some way.
Serving is more than short-term project – it’s to become a long-term habitual practice and way of life.
*The path to greatness in God’s eyes isn't found on the accent upwards into being served; but rather the downward climb into serving. (Phil. 2:1-11)

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves… -Philippians 2:3
Consumer Christianity can become a cancer within the Church as the body of Christ. Consumer Christianity not only makes us sick; it has drastic impact upon the movement Jesus unleashed in launching of the church; when the people who make up the church live with a ‘ME FOCUS’ and a privilege seeking mindset it consumes the resources designed for mission and for bringing more and more of the kingdom of God to bear upon our here and now moment in history.
--according to the way of Jesus:
a life of preference giving > a life of privilege seeking
