Message outline
Idolatry stems from our impatience and need for control.
Redirecting idolatry back to God isn’t possible.
Prayer should be our first resort , not our last .
When we turn away from God, our covenant relationship with Him needs restored.
When people sin around us, we should still seek God’s mercy for them.
Even when we do wrong, God wants to do good for, among, and through us.
In brief, all idolatry tries to minimize the gulf between the Creator and his creatures, in order to bring him under our control.
‌- John Stott
Ultimately, all idolatry amounts to worship by the idolater of himself.
- Rienk Kuiper
It is idolatry to worship the true God by a wrong method.
- Charles Spurgeon
We need more Christians for whom prayer is the first resort, not the last.
- John Blanchard
